Although it is not considered a sacrament in the United Church of Christ, Confirmation can also be an important ritual in a person’s life. Confirmation typically happens during the teen years (although adults can also be confirmed). A person does not need to be baptized to seek Confirmation, we simply baptize that person during the same service of Confirmation.
While Baptism is the beginning of a person’s relationship with the universal church–the body of Christ–we bring a person into membership with East Side Congregational United Church of Christ (a specific faith community) through Confirmation. If a person is already baptized and confirmed, they enter into membership by confession of faith, and also by letter of transfer from another church.
If you have specific questions about Confirmation, please see Pastor Gary after a Worship Service, or by calling 607-722-1017 to schedule an appointment.
